INTRO
Deep in the cold fluffy snow of the North Pole rests a rustic old but beautiful cabin. A cabin that is filled with joy, wonder, mysterious creatures, a whole lot of gifts, and excitement as we are just days away from Christmas.
Most know this, but what they may not know is that leading to the big day every year Santa & Mrs. Clause host a racing contest. The greatest race in the world that determines who will guide Santa & his sled throughout all the world to spread joy to every kid in the world.
It’s called The 12 Races of Xmas and tests its participants in speed, strength, and endurance. Plus the unwavering spirit and knowledge of Christmas and its festivities. Given this, it should not come as any surprise to you that the legendary contest has been won by The Great Reindeer team led by Rudolph for thousands of years. In fact, they have yet to lose, unless you count the time The Frostic Polar Bear team won. But they were disqualified after stealing Rudolph’s red nose. Turns out that nose is pretty special.
In any case, this year Mrs. Clause suggested to Santa that for the first time they should omit the Reindeers from competing in the contest. Furthermore to open up the contest doors not just to the magical creatures of the North Pole, but also to other creatures on the planet such as humans.
You heard that correctly. For the first time ever The Great 12 Races of Xmas Contest is open to all creatures, including Humans! This is a monumental opportunity. Not only to showcase you are the wisest and fastest runner/team in all the lands. But you also get to meet Mr. & Mrs. Clause and earn a once and a lifetime chance to guide Santa & his sled on Christmas.
Talk about epic! Do you think you or your team has what it takes? Even if you don’t, what better way to spend the season than playing some holiday themed scavenger hunt trivia puzzle games while getting some workout runs in. 3 WAYS TO TEAM UP
Race or Play individually, with a team, or as part of a relay team. Each 'group' is scored and has opportunities to win.

NOTE: You must be at least age 12+
SCORING: 1 score per player based on how well and how long it takes you to complete all puzzle/obstacle tasks.

(2+) runners who race separately but combine scores at the end
NOTE: Played just like other 'relay races' where each player runs their race.
SCORING: Each player's score is combined with your team and then divided based on # of players on your team for your relay teams official score.
TIP: You can split your team up and each do different races, e.g. Player 1 (or more) plays race 1, player 2 (or more) plays race 2, etc. You can even have 12 of you each playing races 1 - 12, or heck say 48 of you and split up accordingly. Whatever combination you want to do.

TEAM
A group of 2+ runners who race simultaneously as a team
NOTE: No limit to # of players on a team.
SCORING: 1 score per team with all members needing to finish race before time stops.
TIP: You can also split your team into multiple teams and compete against one another.

HOW IT WORKS
Much simpler than it appears. Where as each race is different, they all operate the same way: Run > find items > solve puzzle > hand in solution.

Locate the ATHEON host (who will be wearing ATHEON merch for easy recognition).
STEP 3
ATHEON host will provide you/team with all your race materials: a map, obstacle worksheet, and utensil.

Using the map and clues provided decipher where to navigate to and how you plan to get there?

Make your way to each of the zone markers as indicated on your map.
STEP 7
Now the hunt is on as you/team need to locate the [puzzle items] which will be found on clearly marked ATHEON signs.

Prepare your mind & body for an epic adventure through the mysterious Oyster Bay park in San Leandro, CA.
Filled with inspiration, glory, and wonder.
Your task is to solve the mystery puzzle and save the beloved mayor of Turducken, Tod Turkenson.
To do so, you will need to locate the evidence & suspects using the map provided and decipher the clues and solve the puzzle.
Along the way take in the picturesque ocean bay, trails, valleys, and trees in the secret gem of Oyster Bay. Just don't take too long, you have a crime to solve!

For those who seek challenge, heroic enlightenment, and an omni fit activity for yourself, friends, or the whole family.
Not your typical race. Think of it like a Running Race + Scavenger Hunt + Murder Mystery Puzzle rolled into one epic omni adventure. Not easy, but boy is it fun, healthy, and rewarding!
Distance/Time: 10k / 80 – 180 min (estimates)
For All 12+: Sprint, jog, walk. All are welcome. Under 12 must be with an adult.

Game Play

A map and worksheet is provided at start
At the start line, the ATHEON host will provide you with your quest packet including a map, worksheet, and pen. The map will provide you with all the locations for you to run to (which acts as the race route)

Locate the evidence found on Signs
At each location on the map are clearly marked ATHEON signs, which will provide you with items in the Christmas themed puzzle which you will need to collect all of them to complete.

Decipher the items and solve the puzzle
Once you have collected all the items. You run back to the start line and hand in your answer to the puzzle to the ATHEON host.

Digital Detox
This is an intentional device free event to gift you a much needed digital break and use our bodies and minds. Who knows you may even enjoy hearing yourself and others think, run, laugh.
Note: We recommend leaving all devices behind but you still can have a phone with you for use in an emergency. And it’s ok to track your steps for health/training purposes.
Game Details
Single or Team: Play yourself or together with a group as a team
Team Size: No limit, but everyone in your group must purchase a ticket or get the group team ticket with a max number of people indicated. If you have more, buy multiple accordingly.
Age: Game play is suitable for age 12+, any kids on your team under 12 play for free and must be accompanied by an adult
You must be at least 16 to play by yourself.
Flex Start Time: Check-in with the host and begin quest anytime between 7:30 – 11:30 am on day of event
Pace: Sprint, run, jog, or walk at desired pace, but no assisted help (unless pre-defined for medical reasons.)
Distance: The distance indicated is an estimate, this is a scavenger hunt so naturally it depends on your navigation and puzzle skills.
Duration: 80 – 150 min (depends on you/team)
No Devices: As mentioned above, this is an intentional device free zone to inspire you to use your own legs and wits. You are not allowed to use any technology assistance of any sort unless it’s an emergency or to track your steps for health/training purposes.
Start/End: The start and end of the quest is the same. The Atheon host will provide you with everything you need to begin. Once completed you come back and hand in your mystery solution to the host.

Benefits: This game is jammed packed with a plethora of valuable benefits like: map reading, orienteering, find-ability, endurance, speed, problem solving, note taking, puzzle solving, memory, team work, and much more. Can’t emphasize enough how rewarding this activity is but with that said…
1st Time: Like all games, don’t expect to be amazing the first time.
Distance: Time & distance provided is a rough estimate as it depends on how you or your team is at navigating the map, finding the evidence/suspects and deciphering the mystery. Thus the exact distance you do will be up to you or your team. Feel free to come back to the start to see the ATHEON host as desired.
Fun: Almost every player who has participated in this race has said that time and distance was irrelevant as they are so distracted having fun navigating and solving the mystery that they don’t even realize how far or long it has been.
Strategy: Strategy is valuable. There are many layers to this game quest that allow for a multitude of different types of strategies. Making it all that much more fun and the desire to come back for more.
